SOL Association

Associação SOL is an institution that supports children infected and affected by the HIV / AIDS virus and their families. It was founded on December 17, 1992, with the main objective of responding to the problem of children orphaned by AIDS. The Association's main project at the time of its creation was the construction of a house to house orphaned children, victims of this disease, which happened five years later.

This project divides its activities into four major responses:

  • Home for childhood and Youth - Casa Sol (Lisbon): currently shelters children / youngsters from ages ranging from less than 1 year to 22 years old. It is the first and only house that houses HIV-positive children in Portugal. It was a pioneer in the creation of its own philosophy, different from what existed until then in social support institutions. There is no age limit to stay, the bet is on affection, security and a sense of belonging to a family;

  • Home Support: with a special focus on the delivery and verification of the medication intake by all HIV-positive people in the family, housing a spectrum of action of more than 200 people;

  • International Action: Associação SOL recently increased the scope of its action to Mozambique, Maputo province, in helping children with HIV / AIDS, in a country where this disease has a very high population infection rate. Its action involves the periodic sending of material goods (clothes, toys, school supplies, etc.) and money, to help a local Association in the construction of a house for about 400 infected children;

  • Psychosocial care and monitoring of children and families.

Associação SOL intends to ensure and disseminate good practices in the area of HIV-AIDS, demystifying the disease, and aims to ensure continuity of care and social support for families and children / young people affected and infected by HIV / AIDS, many of them orphans of parents who mostly died of AIDS victims, from unstructured family contexts, from social deprivation and inequality, from social exclusion and / or vulnerability, with poor housing conditions.

We are a family owned and operated business.
